How GoCheckAI Works
An honest, plain-language explanation of what GoCheckAI does, how our scam assessment works, and the important limits you should know.
What GoCheckAI does
GoCheckAI is an independent informational and technology platform that helps you understand whether something is a scam and what to do next. We provide two core tools: a scam checker that assesses suspicious messages, links, and numbers, and a response plan builder that creates a personalized, country-adapted action plan after an incident.
We also publish educational scam-type guides, country reporting guides, and recovery guides — all written to help you recognize scams, respond effectively, and report through the right official channels.
How the scam assessment works
When you use the checker, GoCheckAI looks for scam indicators in what you submit. Here is what happens, at a high level:
1. You describe what happened
You paste a suspicious message, link, phone number, or email into the checker — or answer a few calm questions in the Get Help flow about what happened, what you shared, and whether money was sent.
2. We assess the risk
GoCheckAI analyzes the content for known scam patterns: urgency language, impersonation cues, suspicious link structures, payment requests, and manipulation tactics. We combine these signals into a transparent risk level — not a guess.
3. You get a prioritized response plan
Based on the risk level and what you shared, you receive a step-by-step plan: what to do immediately, what to do over 24 hours and 7 days, what evidence to preserve, and which official channel to contact — adapted to your country.
The assessment, step by step
Here is what happens between the moment you submit something and the moment you see a result. This is a plain-language overview — it does not expose any proprietary implementation details, model internals, or credentials.
Input analysis
We first identify what kind of input you submitted — a message, a link, a phone number, an email, or an image — and normalize it so the rest of the assessment can apply the right checks to the right content.
Signal extraction
We pull out the meaningful pieces: any URLs and their structure, phone numbers, payment handles (UPI, wallet, card), keywords, the tone and urgency of the language, and the presence of credential or money requests.
Risk factors
Each extracted signal is evaluated as a risk factor — impersonation cues, urgency language, suspicious link structure, payment-request patterns, and manipulation tactics. Factors are weighted by how strongly they indicate a known scam.
URL & link analysis
Where a link is present, we examine its structure: lookalike or misspelled domains, HTTP vs HTTPS, URL shorteners that hide the destination, redirects, and known phishing patterns. This is a structural check, not a live reputation verdict.
Impersonation indicators
We look for language that mimics a trusted entity — a bank, government agency, courier, or tech company — often paired with a manufactured authority or threat to make you comply without questioning.
Urgency & manipulation indicators
Scams rely on pressure: deadlines, threats of account closure, arrest, or missed deliveries, and emotional manipulation. We flag urgency and fear language as strong contributing factors.
Payment-request indicators
Requests for gift cards, crypto, wire transfers, or peer-to-peer payments to strangers, and any "fee" required to release a larger sum, are weighted heavily — these are among the clearest scam signals.
Risk scoring
The weighted factors are combined into a single transparent risk score. You can see which signals contributed and how much, so the number is never a black box.
Final interpretation
The score maps to a risk level — Low, Medium, High, or Critical — with a plain-language explanation of what that level means and the specific signals behind it.
Recommended next steps
Based on the risk level and what you told us you already did, we generate prioritized next steps: secure exposed accounts, contact your bank, preserve evidence, and report to the correct official channel for your country.
The final score is an assessment, not a guarantee. It reflects how strongly the submitted content matches known scam patterns — it is not a legal determination that fraud occurred, and it cannot prove a person or business is safe.
What information you provide
For the checker: the message, link, phone number, or email you want assessed. You can also upload a screenshot. Optionally, you can note what you already did (clicked a link, shared info, sent money).
For the response plan: what happened, the scam type, your country, whether you sent money or shared sensitive information, and when it happened.
We never ask for: passwords, OTPs, PINs, CVV numbers, seed phrases, or full banking credentials. Our evidence form actively blocks these.
How guidance is generated
Your response plan is built from two layers: AI-generated guidance that adapts the steps to your specific situation, and official-source information — verified reporting channels, emergency numbers, and fraud hotlines for your country. The two are clearly separated in your plan.
The risk assessment combines structural analysis of any URLs you submit, pattern recognition across known scam types, and the information you provide about what you shared or paid. The result is a transparent risk level with the specific signals behind it — never a black-box score.
Official sources we use
Country-specific reporting channels come from the official websites of national cybercrime agencies, consumer-protection bodies, central banks, and payment networks. We link directly to those official portals so you can verify the latest information yourself. See our full Trusted Sources page.
Official sources vs. GoCheckAI guidance
Official-source information
Reporting channels, emergency numbers, and fraud hotlines. These come from government and official websites. Always verify on the official site before acting.
GoCheckAI educational guidance
Step-by-step response plans, evidence checklists, and prevention tips. These are based on recognized scam-response best practices and are educational, not legal or professional advice.
AI-generated assistance
The risk assessment and personalized plan adapt to your specific situation. They are a starting point, not a definitive verdict — no automated tool can guarantee accuracy.
Important limitations
GoCheckAI does not guarantee that a message, link, or person is safe or unsafe. No automated check can be certain.
GoCheckAI does not recover money, act as a recovery agent, or ask you to pay anyone to recover funds.
GoCheckAI does not predict your probability of recovering money. We use "response priority" and "next steps," not recovery probability.
GoCheckAI is not a government agency, bank, law-enforcement body, or legal service, and is not affiliated with any official organization.
Always independently verify critical instructions with the official authorities for your country before acting.
