Scam Response & Recovery Guidance — Report a Scam & Get an Action Plan
If you've been scammed, act fast — but stay calm
The first minutes after a scam matter most, but panic leads to mistakes — including falling for a second scam. The steps below are the universally safe actions you should take right away, before or while using the guided plan below. They apply regardless of your country.
Contact your bank or card issuer
Call the official number printed on your card or inside your banking app — not any number the scammer gave you. Ask them to stop or recall the transfer, freeze the card, and dispute the charge. Speed matters: the sooner a bank knows, the more it can sometimes do.
Secure your accounts
Change any password you shared, from a trusted device, and enable two-factor authentication. Treat any OTP you gave out as compromised — the account it protected should be treated as accessed. Revoke suspicious sessions and connected apps.
Preserve evidence
Screenshot messages, the scammer's profile, transaction IDs, receipts, and any links or phone numbers used. Do not delete chats — they are your record. Redact your own private details before sharing anything with anyone.
Report to the official authority
File a report with your country's official fraud or cybercrime body. Reporting creates an official record, helps authorities track the scammers, and is sometimes required by your bank for a dispute. See our country guides for the right channel.
Recovery expectations & limitations
GoCheckAI does not guarantee that lost money can be recovered. No honest service can promise that.
Card payments can sometimes be disputed (chargeback), but bank transfers and cryptocurrency are very difficult to reverse — acting fast with your bank gives the best chance, but it is never certain.
Anyone who contacts you offering guaranteed recovery for an upfront fee is almost certainly a recovery scammer — a common second strike against victims.
How country-specific guidance works
When you tell us your country, your action plan adapts to its official reporting channels, fraud hotlines, and bank guidance. The plan clearly separates two things: official-source information (reporting channels and emergency numbers from government websites) and GoCheckAI educational guidance (step-by-step response steps based on recognized best practices). You can browse every country's verified channels on our country guides page.
Why you should verify official sources
Reporting channels, phone numbers, and bank procedures change over time. GoCheckAI links directly to official portals so you can confirm the latest information yourself before acting. Always reach an organization through an address or number you find independently — on your card, your statement, or the official website — not one a stranger gave you. GoCheckAI is an independent informational tool and is not affiliated with any government agency or bank.
